In 2018, the Association of World Heritage Sites in Finland was provided financing through a discretionary subsidy issued by the Ministry of Education and Culture for the development of the Government’s Tourism 4.0 project.
Thanks to this funding, the association was able to create a joint website for all World Heritage Sites in Finland and develop cultural tourism products in accordance with international standards in cooperation with the Visit Finland Academy for each site in 2018 and 2019. Five workshops related to the project were arranged in late 2018 that focused on how local organisations and businesses could sell their special expertise regarding the sites to international cultural tourists.
With the continued funding granted for the same cultural tourism project, the association is now developing indicators of sustainable tourism at World Heritage Sites in cooperation with Metsähallitus and reinforcing the channels of joint marketing.
